Connor, my grandson, wanted something to do and asked to use the sewing machine.
At 10 years old, he is old enough to understand the workings of a motor & sharp needle and the results of fingers in the way of a sharp needle. I could not have been happier to oblige his request!
We decided to sew a travel size pillow for his younger brother to use during rest time at Pre-K.
To speed things along, I cut the fabric to size and pinned it together. Connor sewed around the pillow and left an opening to stuff it.
Our project was started and finished quickly, giving instant gratification!
"Nana............ what else can we make today"?
"Hmmm......would you like to make a pillow case for your bed pillow"?
"SURE"
Nice huh?

great ideas...my 9 year old son is so anxious to try my machine but i think he needs another year to solidify his coordination. Stitching through your finger can be quite painful!
ReplyDeleteI've never done it, but many a sewer has. (watch me jinx myself for talking about it) LOL
ReplyDeleteAw, so sweet that your grandson asked to do some sewing with you. :)
ReplyDeleteConnor did a great job! A pillowcase that is something that I haven't tried yet. Maybe with the new house coming up I should make some. Connor has inspired me.
ReplyDeleteThat's one lucky grandson! My mother couldn't even sew a button on a shirt, but my grandmother could take a picture and make a dress from that. I spent many, many hours at my grandmother's house! Whenever I'd finish a project...off to grandma's I'd go b/c I know she'd appreficiate it! I know he will cherrish his times with you as he grows older! Stopping by from SITS. Come see me sometime! I'd be thrilled!

"Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest"
ReplyDeleteI love your site! I want to learn how to sew and this is a great place for ideas...Have a great weekend!
That is so awesome! And what a wonderful way to spend time with your grandson and teach him something awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by my blog and happy SITS Saturday.
How cute is that?? Good Job!! =)
ReplyDeleteHe did a great job! My 10 year old daughter is also learning to sew, having just bought her own machine with her birthday money a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to have a look around for some ideas now.
ReplyDeleteA lucky grandma that has someone interested, and lucky Connor that he has such a wonderful teacher! I am afraid if either of my girls had an interest I'd scare them forever with my lack of teaching skills!
